In the pursuit of knowledge, questions are the first steps towards understanding. My FAQ section is here to address the most common queries and provide you with the information you need to make informed decisions about your mental health journey.
Research demonstrates that online Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) is equally as effective as in-person CBT, offering the additional advantage of enhanced flexibility. This means you can engage in therapy from the comfort of your own home or any location that suits your schedule, making it more convenient to balance with your other commitments.
In our first few sessions, you'll likely get a sense of whether we're a good match. If you don't feel that our connection is the right fit for you, that's absolutely okay. I'm here to help you, and if it turns out that we're not the best fit, I'll be more than happy to suggest another therapist who may be a better fit for your unique needs. Your comfort and well-being are my top priority
I use a program called Power Diary to manage our appointments. When you book a session on my website, I'll send you a link via email for our video call. The software is ICO27001 certified and GDPR compliant, so you do not need to worry about security and data protection issues.
It's user-friendly and doesn't cost anything. It creates a convenient and safe space for effective therapy that suits your needs.
Our online CBT sessions are just like in-person ones. We'll share CBT materials and exercises through video. To join, you only need an internet connection and a device with a camera, which is standard on most modern phones, tablets, and laptops.
I'll use your provided email address to send you weekly resources and any agreed-upon homework tasks.
It's important to remember that everyone's needs vary. Some people might only need a few sessions, while others could benefit from a bit more support. In most cases, I typically recommend around 6 to 16 CBT sessions. But the exact number of sessions that'll work best for you, we'll decide together after our initial assessment. We'll also keep checking in and adjusting as needed along the way.
One session per week is recommended but I am happy to also offer bi-weekly if required. Weekly sessions can help to build a therapeutic relationship and gain traction in treatment.
I offer a variety of different session times to suit your needs. Typically sessions last between 30-50 minutes. I am happy to discuss this with you in more detail via consultation.
If you choose to start therapy with me, our initial one or two sessions will serve as an assessment phase. During this time, we'll have an open conversation about the areas in your life where you're facing challenges and feeling stuck. We'll explore what changes you'd like to see in your life, build a shared understanding of what's contributing to these challenges, and work together to identify the best path forward to help you achieve the treatment goals we agree upon.
Everything we discuss in therapy is confidential. However, if I believed that you or someone else was at risk of harm, I would be required to share that information with appropriate people or services such as your GP, CAMHS, Police or Social Services to ensure that you get the most appropriate support at that time. Prior to suspending confidentiality, I would always work with you to develop a Safety Plan together.
At the end of therapy, together we will look at managing setbacks and planning for closure via a relapse prevention session. This will allow you to create a personalised wellbeing plan to help you stay well and prevent future setbacks.
Once a session has been booked into my online system, you will receive two automated emails. The first email is a confirmation of the date/time of session, the second email is a digital invoice. I ask for invoices to be paid before the session occurs.
I work with a 24 hour cancellation policy where the full fee is payable for any sessions cancelled during that time period. Cancellation with more than 24 hours notice will not result in any fee being incurred and, if you wish, your fee can be transferred to your next session.
If a health insurance company is paying for treatment, they will have their own cancellation policy. Please familiarise yourself with your insurance companies’ policy regarding cancellations.
I currently only offer appointments within my private practice on the following days:
